Andrew Jenkinson takes a look at Leisuredrive Campervans, run and founded by Derek Andrews in 1969…
Having a park home means most conventional motorhomes are out of the question, but with a campervan it’s only the same as having a large car on the drive.
With a spare bit of cash in many cases, perhaps after selling their bricks and mortar, retired owners are looking at moving into leisure homes – but many also want to travel.
The problem is that most parks will not let you park a tourer or large motorhome on your drive except for loading and unloading. So what’s the next best thing? A campervan? The modern campervan is a luxury motorhome with all the spec you need to go touring the UK or even Europe.
Derek knows how a good campervan should be designed and, from his factory near Bolton, he produces such vehicles and trades in both new and used vans.
The company build using mainly the VW T5/6 and more recently the latest Ford Transit and brand new for 2019 the VW Crafter van.
Leisuredrive build to the spec of customers and offer plenty of choices for buyers – both new and experienced. Ovens, microwaves blown heating and washrooms are all features of Leisuredrive’s models. Their latest model, the Artesano, even offers air conditioning.
Leisuredrive celebrates 50 years in the coming months, and it’s evidence that their reputation for quality and flair has been earned over the years. Models such as the Crusader, Vivante and Free spirit are all available in different versions as they prove so popular with buyers.
Derek founded Leisuredrive in 1969 after his father asked him to convert an old ambulance into a mobile home for him.
Derek says, “We’re having a pre-50th anniversary event for the whole of October, where we’ll be reducing prices and offering free upgrades.
“If you pay for a Silver Level conversion, you’ll be upgraded to Gold Level.”
Not only this, but in March 2019 the anniversary shenanigans will begin again, as Derek says, “There’ll be more upgrade offers, stock at reduced prices, an anniversary weekend celebration with caterers and giveaways, and more. Watch our website for details.”
If you do visit the factory, you’ll see that customer care is very much in evidence too with the team being fully knowledgeable about the Leisuredrive campervan. Customers can see the vans being built at the factory and staff can explain the ins and outs of the product.
Campervans are a great way to tour the UK or abroad for the park home owner, who can store it on their leisure home drive and also use it as an everyday vehicle.
