Park Cliffe - How Cumbria park is fixing it for fell walkers

Park Cliffe

People walking the uplands of Cumbria can continue putting the best foot forward, thanks in part to a top-rated Lake District holiday park and its fundraising efforts.

Park Cliffe on the shores of Windermere has donated £1,500 this year to the Fix the Fells programme which makes vital repairs to some of the region's most popular footpaths.

The sum results from a busy twelve months of money-raising activities at the family-owned park, ranging from quizzes, raffles and a duck race to a bonfire night in November.

Park guests are also invited to make a voluntary donation when they book their stay online – an option which the vast majority take up, according to business owner Susan Dickson.

Waterrow Touring Park - Gold crowns Exmoor park's celebration year

Waterrow Touring Park

A year of award celebrations at Exmoor's Waterrow Touring Park has come to a golden conclusion for its family owners with the scooping of a major tourism honour.

The business, based in Wiveliscombe, has been named as the overall gold winner in the camping and caravanning category of the 2017 Bristol, Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards.

Judges announced their decision at a glittering awards ceremony in November at Somerset County Cricket Club, attended by senior tourism figures from throughout the region.

Waterrow will now be fast-tracked into the finals of the South West Tourism Excellence Awards in February – and could even compete in the national VisitEngland finals later next year.

The Elms Retirement Park smooths way for outward bound residents

the elms

Travel-loving residents at The Elms retirement park in Lincolnshire now no longer need to kerb their enthusiasm for getting out and about.

That's because the family-owned park has found a way of making its pavement even more friendly to people with limited mobility.

The solution was sparked by Elms residents Clive and Janet Thompson who moved to the park six years ago after running a B&B business in North Wales.

Clive, aged 80, now uses a mobility scooter – but his wife Janet, aged 74, encountered a bumpy problem when they tried to catch the local bus which calls at the park.

From mulled wine and mince pies at Canterbury and Boroughbridge Club Sites to a series of special celebrations at Bellingham Club Site in the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park, there’s plenty of choice.

Weak pound is fuelling caravan industry boom

The caravan industry is reaping the benefits of a weak pound which is making foreign holidays much more expensive, says an award-winning Shropshire-based business.
