As another busy season draws to a close, campsite and holiday park operators can take stock of their facilities and plan. While accommodation, grounds and communal areas will all demand attention, washrooms are one area where the effects of a busy season can be particularly noticeable.
High footfall, frequent cleaning, moisture and constant daily use can take their toll on even well-maintained facilities. The quieter months are therefore a good time to inspect washrooms closely and identify anything that may need repair, replacement, or improvement before guests return.
Start With the Cubicles

WC and shower cubicles see heavy use throughout the season.
Check doors, partitions, hinges, and other fittings for signs of wear or damage. Doors that have become difficult to close, damaged partitions or surfaces that are becoming harder to maintain could indicate that repairs or replacements are required.
The environment matters too. Shower blocks and other wet areas place very different demands on materials compared with drier toilet facilities.
Where replacement cubicles are needed, operators should consider not only appearance but also whether the specified materials suit the conditions and level of use they will face.
Check Vanity Areas and Panelling
Vanity areas are another part of the washroom that can quickly show signs of heavy use.
Operators should check the condition of vanity tops, units and surrounding surfaces, particularly in areas regularly exposed to water.
Duct and IPS panelling should also form part of the inspection. Damaged or worn panels can affect a washroom’s overall appearance, while well-designed panelling keeps pipework and services concealed and helps create a coordinated finish.
Rather than viewing each element separately, the closed season can offer an opportunity to consider how cubicles, vanity units, and panelling work together throughout the washroom.
Could the Layout Work Better?
Refurbishment doesn’t always mean replacing what is already there with the same arrangement.
Before work begins, consider how guests actually use the facility during busy periods.
Are there areas where people regularly congregate? Could vanity space be used more effectively? Is access to services straightforward for maintenance? Does the current arrangement make the best use of the available space?
Addressing these questions at the planning stage can help operators make more informed decisions about the refurbishment.
A site survey and detailed drawings can also help when existing buildings have unusual dimensions, older services, or layouts that need a tailored solution.
Use the Closed Season to Plan Ahead
One of the biggest advantages of assessing washrooms at the end of the season is time.
Waiting until reopening approaches can leave a relatively small window to specify products, manufacture components, and complete installation.
Planning earlier gives operators more time to decide what needs attention, consider materials and finishes and coordinate work with other maintenance taking place across the site.
Installation should also form part of that planning.
Pre-drilled and pre-assembled cubicle systems can reduce on-site preparation, making installation more straightforward when work must be completed within a limited maintenance period.
Repair, Replace or Refurbish?
Not every washroom showing signs of wear needs a complete refurbishment.
In some cases, replacing individual components may be enough to extend the facility’s life. In others, repeated repairs across cubicles, vanity areas and panelling suggest that a more comprehensive approach provides a better long-term solution.
The key is to assess the washroom as a whole and decide early.
For campsite and holiday park operators, the months between busy seasons offer a valuable opportunity to improve with less disruption and prepare facilities for the demands of another year.
