Willerby reveals two new models

Leading manufacturer Willerby has launched two new models to fill an important gap in the park home and lodge markets. Willerby’s New Forest was one of the new models revealed for the first time at Scotland’s largest caravan and holiday home show in Glasgow. The New Forest’s design and key features have been influenced by market research and a major survey exploring what matters most to people buying a residential park home. Value for money, ease of maintenance and style were among the top requirements, with owners keen to avoid expensive refurbishment work without sacrificing on quality, style and comfort. With its timeless colour palette and clean, classic interior design, the New Forest is a residential park home which features two bedrooms, a spacious living room and separate kitchen/dining space, and an ensuite bathroom to the master bedroom. It’s the first Willerby park home – and one of the first from any major UK manufacturer – to be built to the new BS 3632 (2023) British Standard, which sets out updated regulations for the manufacture of residential park homes for use as permanent residences. The new British Standard will be mandatory as of September this year but, with the New Forest now going into production, it means Willerby is ahead of the game when it comes to legislation. The New Forest is cheaper to run and maintain than traditional or second hand park homes, without sacrificing any of the high-quality build and aesthetic which Willerby is renowned for. Building to the BS 3632 (2023) standard ensures superior thermal efficiency, reducing the energy consumption and cost for the owner. A new high-grade steel-coated roof provides strength and weather protection, and the render effect cladding is easy to maintain and clean. Released at an entry-level price point, the New Forest fills a much-needed gap in the residential park homes market – helping owners secure a brand-new home, rather than settle for a second-hand model. The New Forest is available in two different sizes – 36ft x 20ft and 40ft x 20ft. Willerby’s latest residential park home was unveiled at The Scottish Caravan, Motorhome and Holiday Home Show at Glasgow’s SEC, a four-day consumer and trade event attracting tens of thousands of visitors to experience the latest products and innovations in the industry. Willerby Product Manager James Burling said: “Following detailed feedback from owners and customers we’ve focused on three key areas with the New Forest – value for money, build quality and desirability. “The New Forest is competitively priced to give customers an alternative to a second-hand park home. “It offers all of the benefits of owning a brand new residential park home at a more affordable price, saving the cost, time and hassle of refurbishing and maintaining an older home.” The Scottish Caravan, Motorhome and Holiday Home Show also saw Willerby launch the special edition Boston, a spacious entry-level lodge which gives owners all the benefits of lodge living at a great value price. The Boston comes as either a two-bedroom or three-bedroom lodge, both at 40ft x 20ft. The layout features improvements to open up new space in the kitchen and the bedroom dressing areas. Balancing practicality with a modern style, the Boston’s colour scheme is on trend, with blush pink and graphite accents adding visual interest to a palette of khaki, grey and dark oak. Willerby has designed both its new models to be low maintenance, with contemporary build materials delivering a consistently high-quality finish. Willerby Sales Director Keith Holland said: “By launching new entry-level models to the market, we’re bringing a desirable lifestyle choice to more people, offering a superior alternative to second-hand units. “The New Forest and Boston are stylishly designed, offering modern living spaces to which owners can add their own touches.  “We’re delighted to have launched two new models which will fill important gaps in the market, enabling even more people to realise their dream of owning a new park home or lodge and enjoy the fantastic lifestyle this offers.” The design and build of both the New Forest and the Boston have been guided by consumer research, including feedback from existing park home owners, and a 2022 Government survey into the residential park sector. In the Government survey of 1,500 residential park home owners, more than half of owners who had purchased a second-hand home had done so due to affordability. However, many had subsequently carried out refurbishment work to bring the home up to date and  match the interior to their style and tastes – an often expensive and time-consuming process. Almost 40 per cent of the owners surveyed had replaced an old kitchen, with other common refurbishments including the bathroom, windows, doors and insulation.

Caravan Guard buys life changing laser machine

Leisure insurance specialists Caravan Guard, incorporating Leisuredays, has delivered more than £100,000 of Christmas cheer to Leeds Hospitals Charity. Their £107,190 donation has paid for an innovative carbon dioxide laser to help patients suffering from neck, throat and head cancers. The state-of-the-art CO2 laser will be used by the specialist Head and Neck Service at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, where around 45 patients with complex conditions are waiting for life-changing surgery. The new laser enables surgeons to precisely remove thin layers of skin with minimal damage to the surrounding areas. The team will use the laser to treat around 10 oropharyngeal and laryngeal cancer patients each month. “We’re happy to say that the new laser, bought by Caravan Guard and the Wilby family, has brought our head and neck cancer services right up to date. We’re now able to offer patients a service that is 100% reliable, supremely accurate and hugely effective at resecting cancers affecting the key organs of speech and swallowing. Also, the integration of the new laser, specifically the laser fibre, within our existing robotic surgery programme is putting Leeds at the forefront of technological developments to deliver head and neck cancer treatments that aren’t being replicated elsewhere in the UK,” said consultants Mr Jim Moor, Miss Rebecca Dawson and Mr Amit Prasai. Laura Wilby, Associate Director of Caravan Guard, met the medical team responsible for laser treatments and heard how it has not only improved patient lives but their working lives too. She also got to see and take part in a demo of the laser on a pumpkin and challenged one of the clinicians to carve the Caravan Guard logo into it!  “It was so lovely to hear of the positive impact this new laser is having – and will have – for both patients and the Head and Neck medical team and see first-hand how effective it is,” said Laura. “Care completely is one of our company values and this extends beyond our colleagues, customers and partners to support life-changing treatment like this. We’re delighted to be able to pay for this transformative technology which will not only enhance treatment options but more importantly change lives for patients with head, neck and throat cancers and other complex conditions.” Victoria, aged 51 from Holmfirth, was one of the first patients to benefit from the new laser. She had a condition called Tracheal Stenosis, which caused her airways to narrow and scar tissue had grown over, meaning she was unable to breathe normally. She was first told she would need a tracheostomy, an invasive operation, but thankfully she’s been able to have several minimally invasive operations with the CO2 laser. “It’s given me a lifeline,” said Victoria. “I feel like myself again, I can get a good nights’ sleep without panicking that I can’t breathe, and I can go out and enjoy life with family and friends without feeling like a burden. I’m forever indebted to the hospital team. By donating to Leeds Hospitals Charity, you’re giving someone like me their life back, something that is absolutely priceless.”  This is the third big donation from Caravan Guard to pay for state-of-the-art cancer equipment. In 2016, they donated £68,000 to Leeds Cancer Centre to meet a fundraising shortfall for their pioneering NanoKnife treatment and a further £58K in 2017 towards a MRi (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) Simulator.  https://www.caravanguard.co.uk/

Darlly are changing how we clean our filters.

At Spatex 2024, Darlly, the leading European pool and spa filter manufacturer, will launch a new filter cleaning system called ‘FilterGuard.’ The research and development team at Darlly worked for over a year on a new approach to maintaining pool and spa filters to ensure maximum lifespan at the lowest cost and minimum effort. Dominic Moseley, the project leader, said, “Since Hot Tubs arrived in Europe, cleaning filters has always been a chore, and our new product aims to change that.” Jeremy, another team member, has received excellent feedback through reviews and responses to his articles and videos on our Filter Care blog, where we share articles and videos on how to care for your filters.  The new FilterGuard system has four steps that work together, using fewer chemicals and recyclable materials, and are affordable. The modified ‘Cyclone’ cleaning brush now includes a mixing reservoir that automatically dispenses a cleaning liquid. Additionally, there is a purpose-built, space-saving filter cleaning bucket suitable for 90% of all known filters that can hang on the wall. Furthermore, we have developed a revolutionary pack of fast-dissolving cleaning sheets that incorporate active enzymes for deep cleaning. These sheets are eco-friendly and do not contain any plastics or chemicals. Dominic is excited to introduce this product and said, “Darlly likes to be the first to introduce innovative products. FilterGuard is no exception; this is a real first within our industry, and we are very excited to release it!”  For any additional information about FilterGuard products, contact: gil@darlly.eu www.darlly.eu +44 (0)1952 580500

Are you aware of the risk of Legionella and other diseases?

As a holiday let owner or holiday park owner are you aware of the risk of Legionella and other potentially infectious waterborne diseases? Are you aware of your legal obligations to control and monitor these risks? Anyone can be susceptible to Legionnaires and other waterborne diseases such as pseudomonas, those most susceptible include; people aged over 45, smokers, people who drink heavily, anyone suffering from respiratory, lung or heart disease and anyone with an impaired immune system.  Legionella compliance doesn’t have to be complicated, an important aspect of Legionella control in holiday lets is managing the risk during void periods. It’s important that during shut down periods water in the system is completely drained down when not in use. However, if your property is open but has been left vacant for a period longer than a few days the water could still be a risk and should be flushed thoroughly as stagnation encourages bacterial growth.  Having a risk assessment in place to identify potential risks in your water system and appointing a competent person in charge of the system, who understands it’s workings and any associated equipment, is always recommended as it will help to identify any possible exposure to Legionella. Undertaking a regular programme to flush the system will also help, flushing of the system on a regular basis can reduce the risk but be wary, water that has been left sitting unused in a system may already contain potentially dangerous bacteria. Fully cleaning and opening outlets such as taps and showers and allowing them to run for several minutes on full will help to flush the system, we would always advise doing this and leaving the room to ensure any potentially dangerous air droplets are not inhaled. However, be aware showers and taps are not the only potential hazards, swimming pools, hot tubs and air conditioning units all carry their own risks as they have environmental conditions that can support the growth of legionella and other infectious diseases.  Specific Health and Safety regulations apply to the upkeep of hot tubs as they present a higher risk due to their ideal breading grounds, regulations include temperature management, a well-maintained filtration system, correct chemical balance, record keeping, risk assessment and regular testing. In short, whether you own a caravan, barge, Air BnB or lodge, or you are a caravan or holiday park owner you are legally required under HSG282 and HSG274 to ensure you are fully undertaking the control of Health and Safety at your premises and this includes the control infectious waterborne diseases.  Here at SAS Water, we are experts in water control, we are passionate about educating people on the risks involved and what your legal requirements are. So, whether you require training for your employees on the requirements, a risk assessment of your system, sampling of your water, or you would like to speak to us about your obligations then get in touch today at  info@saswater.co.uk  www.saswater.co.uk or call  01335347058.  If you would like to regsiter your interest in our FREE upcoming webinars happening throughtout the year please click here.
