Green Goblet recycled tableware

When we talk about sustainability, we often think about how the product is sourced and how it is recycled. While these are important factors, these elements should be merely the bookends of a circular approach which benefits people, places and the planet. There is over 5 trillion pieces of plastic in the ocean, and by 2040, our environmentally destructive habits will put the planet on an altered course of history that we will not be able to turn back from. Thanks to programmes like ‘Blue Planet’, the world has seen the impact of plastic pollution -from seeing turtles eating plastic, sea birds feeding plastic to their chicks and marine animals trapped in plastic bags. It is also now a concern that more microplastics have been found in UK rivers, therefore affecting freshwater fish, otters and birds etc., making them plastic waterways which are pumping pollution through our towns and villagers. Although we have all been made more aware of the threat posed by single-use plastic, it is obvious that a solution must be found. At Green Goblet, it has been our mission since 2012 to eliminate single-use plastic. We have now saved hundreds of millions of single-use cups going into landfill by helping organisations switch over to reusable cups and tableware. We have watched the transformation of festival and event sites, where once there was a ‘sea’ of single-use plastic cups left scattered over the grounds at the end of each day, to seeing the grass! This has been possible due to festival and events replacing single-use cups with reusable cups. These cups can either be branded for their event, or they can use a mixture of branded with our generic cups. Another solution is to rent our generic cups from us, where the cups are delivered to the site and picked up after the event. This is the perfect solution when an organisation is holding a big event and needs a low-cost solution. Most events usually operate on a £1/£2 deposit scheme where they pay a deposit for their cup with their first drink and then their cup is exchanged for a clean cup with every additional drink they purchase. When they have finished drinking, they can then take their cup back to get their cup deposit back. All the dirty cups are then sent back to one of Green Goblets wash stations (or on-site), where they are hygienically washed and dried ready to be sent out to the next event. These reusable cups are ideal for Caravan Parks, especially where they have outside drinking areas. As glass has very little resistance impact, there is always the fear of glasses being broken into potentially dangerous shards in public areas. Why not have a reusable cup which is branded to your organisation that your customers pay a deposit for, so they can bring their cup back for a refund or keep their cup as a souvenir of their holiday. It also keeps the tables clear and eliminates the need for staff to be clearing the tables of glasses. Green Goblet reusable cups have proved very popular at Caravan Parks and have become more and more popular with the holidaymakers. They are also very popular with the children for their slush puppies. Caravan/Holiday Parks usually attract people that appreciate the outdoors life and have a concern for the natural world. So, from our experience, they are usually very supportive of an organisations step to become more environmentally friendly by using ‘eco-friendly’ ‘green’ cups. Green Goblet has taken their experience to continually look at ways that they can help organisations lower their carbon footprint which is why we have introduced our new reusable hot cup. This can also be branded to your organisation or left blank. By charging a deposit for the hot cup means that the customer can keep coming back time and time to exchange their cup for another hot drink. Green Goblet has now launched a new Coffee Cup scheme with the new ‘Billie Cup’. This means that the hot/cold cup can be exchanged at multiple locations meaning less waste and less pollution. These cups are ideal for coffee, tea, ice-creams, soups, smoothies and milkshakes -please contact info@green-goblet.com for more information. All these ‘eco-friendly cups are dishwasher proof and have been tested by being washed over 500 times – and still look great! When these reusable cups come to the end of their life, they are recycled into coat hangers, ice scrapers and other useful objects. All Green Goblet, their eco-cups come in lots of different sizes and colours, from pints, half pints to wine and champagne flutes. All of them can be branded to your organisation or event, left blank with just a ‘I’M A REUSABLE CUP- PLEASE RETURN ME’ message on, or left completely blank. We now offer reusable branded or unbranded wine and champagne flutes which are perfect for outdoor areas. It is more important than everyone adopts a green lifestyle. We believe that everyone can make a difference – saving the planet one cup at a time. # Refill not Landfill 01278 238390 https://www.green-goblet.com info@green-goblet.com
Will adding an eco-friendly surface provide a visually stunning addition to your outside areas?

The requirement for a fully permeable surface also known as SuDS is increasing. SuDS (Sustainable urban Drainage Systems) is an approach to water management introduced by the Environment Agency in 2011 to help with the quality of our water and manage flood risk. When building a new hardscape or simply renovating existing areas, allowing water to drain through the materials into run off points is an important part to our future landscapes. If a permeable paving is installed onto a typical base such as asphalt (tarmac), the water that passes through a permeable surface can be harvested or cleared into drains or soak-aways, whilst being puddle free. The permeability of a resin bound paving like SureSet allows the water to drain through but unlike permeable tarmac, resin bound paving comes with a large range of colours and the ability to achieve the most detailed designs and logos making and possibilities endless and achieving a visually stunning surface area. An exciting alternative to traditional hardscape surfaces, Resin Bound Paving is a surface that looks impressive with an even greater advantage of being an easy to maintain surfacing that can cope with a high footfall. It is recommend that you regularly sweep resin bound areas using a stiff broom and pressure wash a few times a year to keep its outstanding appearance. Importantly their paving products are manufactured in the UK and their installations are backed by a 21-Year Guarantee when laid by an approved team. Resin bound installation typically take less time to install than other traditional paving options. Guaranteed for 21 years against: loose stone; cracking; oil damage; UV degradation; colour change and frost damage. SureSet products are available Worldwide and they also deliver a supply of products such as TradePack® and ProResin® direct to tradesmen or keen DIY enthusiasts which are available through their online shop. Why park-wide access control is a Smart solution

Smart lock specialists TLJ Access Control have developed a unique and innovative electronic, contactless lock for the holiday park and leisure industry. Now in its third and most advanced incarnation, TLJ’s award-winning* RezLok is a fully-self-contained, battery powered smart lock that has been designed specifically for residential settings. Crucially, it is suitable for a range of door types and constructions including uPVC, metal, partially glazed, composite and wood. The RezLok difference Unlike most electronic locks, the working parts of RezLok are contained within the handle itself so it’s fully compatible with virtually any door locking mechanism, including multipoint. As such, it is perfect for doors on static caravans, holiday homes, lodges and glamping pods, as well as more traditional settings such as hotel bedrooms. It functions equally well on news doors and retrofits too. The levers and lock body are made from hard wearing, marine-grade stainless steel with a combination of polished and brushed finishes. It’s resistant to rust, scuffs, scratches and weathering. Not only does it ensure that, many years in the future, RezLok will look as good as it did on day one, it also allows for easy matching of other door furniture, such as hinges and kick plates. Park-wide benefits However, the real benefit of RezLok comes from its flexibility. It’s no longer enough for a door lock to simply open and close when the correct key is presented. Like all TLJ locks, RezLok offers a choice of activation via smartphone, key card, fob or wristband. A variety of operating modes are tailored specifically for the holiday park and leisure industry, overcoming a wide range of issues specific to holiday homes. For example, how to ensure that family members are never locked out, whilst still maintaining the unit’s security from the outside? TLJ really have made the smart lock smarter! As well as benefits for the customers, there are a host of advantages for the park operator. Not least, digital smartphone keys eliminate congestion and queues on check-in and departure days. TLJ can even provide their dedicated smartphone app (Android or iOS) or assist with a variety of park-wide integrations. Integrated Smart Home experts

Integrated Smart Home experts, SmartRent, have teamed up with global access specialists, TLJ Access Control to deliver a truly ‘street to sofa’ integrated solution, perfect for implementation in homes, shared accommodation or Holiday Parks. The ‘traditional’ metal key is set to become a thing of the past with the combination of SmartRent’s app based system and TLJ’s smart locks and numerical Zpad. Smart locks are electronic door locks controlled by a key card, fob, smartphone or other electronic device, in this case by a number key pad and a code, issued via the app. In the Holiday Park setting this delivers a whole new offering for Operators, giving them enhanced Estate Team efficiencies whilst also presenting guests with another level of luxury for their holiday or visit. The guest journey from arrival to entry of the unit can now be completely automated and touch free, there’s no need for physical keys to hand to visitors so no keys to lose and no more lengthy queues at reception on check in day. Guests are issued a personal key code that allows them to open their door via their mobile phone. The SmartRent system also gives them the option of being able to operate the thermostat in their unit remotely (useful for turning on the heating on the way home from a day swimming, for example), and the ability to access all the park amenities (pool, gym, entertainment area etc) from one single app. With SmartRent, the operator no longer has to send maintenance teams back to the office to sort through and collect the correct keys before accessing units – instead they can be sent the work orders and a one time code for quick access to sort out in-unit issues. Being able to monitor for leaks remotely and control thermostats in empty units not only allows operators to monitor for dripping pipes or humidity issues, turn down thermostats left on when a guest checks out and make units comfortable for the next guests’ arrival, all without visiting the unit in person. This saves Operators time and money – minor issues are detected long before they become major problems that can result in costly repairs or worse still – putting the unit out of commission for a period altogether. Adding in TLJ’s smart access control and you have a smooth, sleek process that results in as little disruption for the Park guest as possible. The integration of TLJ Access Control into the SmartRent system creates a seamless solution for Holiday Parks – saving money, increasing efficiencies and presenting the Holiday Park as a Smarter Park, no longer the Park of the future but the Park of NOW…! email sales-uk@smartrent.com

How to choose safe and sustainable decking for your park

When developing or refurbishing your holiday or residential park, you’ll want to choose the most effective materials. Decking typically comes up in conversation. It’s not surprising. Decking provides fast, cost-effective outdoor space for homes. Plus, communal areas such as bars and restaurants come to life with relaxing decking areas in the fresh air. You can even create lakeside jetties from correctly specified decking. When you’re not in the know, it’s complicated to choose the right decking. And the implications of getting it wrong are substantial. Having supplied miles of timber decking to holiday parks and park homes across the UK, we can help you understand key considerations and what questions to ask your contractor before going ahead with your decking project. Keeping them safe All construction materials have risks to manage. The biggest issue for decking – whether timber or composite – is becoming slippery when wet. Without mitigating the risk, ‘wet decking’ days can be lethal for all ages. And it’s not just steps that become slippery, flat areas also lose grip when they’re wet. You don’t want complaints and injuries on your site. Thankfully, there’s no need to endure slippery decking and limit use of outdoor areas when the weather’s unfavourable. Specific products exist to help minimise the risk of injury. Getting this right keeps your park safer for everyone. Anti-slip decking explained Grooved timber is generally used to create anti-slip decking. A resin and aggregate formulation fills at least two grooves, sitting slightly proud of the timber. This creates a sturdy grip underfoot, significantly reducing the risk of slipping – even when the decking is wet. Anti-slip timber decking is a long-term, professional solution. It won’t deteriorate over time. In fact, the grip is as good after ten years as it was on day one. By choosing factory manufactured anti-slip decking you won’t compromise on the look of your deck either. The resin and aggregate appears subtle, ensuring you still enjoy the pleasure of your timber expanse. Anti-slip decking gives you 365 days a year use, despite rain and ice. Maybe you want to extend your season? Smart material choice is vital. Understanding PTV scores When comparing different anti-slip decking boards, look for the Pendulum Test Value (PTV) score as this confirms the level of safety achieved. Avoid anti-slip decking without a score at all costs. Wet decking is PTV tested to compare safety credentials. A score of 35 or above confirms ‘low slip’ potential. Robust anti-slip timber decking achieves a score of 70 or above when wet. By comparison, wet composite decking typically achieves scores of 36 – it’s a myth this product is naturally anti-slip. Timber decking facts Its endearing look and tactile feel confirm why timber is traditionally used to create decking. Correctly specified timber decking is pressure treated to Use Class 3, ensuring you enjoy its maximum life. We provide a 10-year warranty for all our anti-slip timber decking. Made from many different hardwood and softwood species, there’s also a wide variety of groove profiles to consider. You don’t need to retreat or stain pressure treated timber decking during its lifetime. Naturally, timber silvers as it ages, yet performance doesn’t diminish. Of course, should you prefer a different colour, timber accepts many stain treatments. Maintaining timber decking is straight forward. Regularly sweep off debris and consider washing it annually – using a brush and hose or a pressure washer. The truth about composite decking An assortment of attractive composite (or plastic) decking boards exist today. Made from plastic and wood fibres, they’re manufactured to look like wood and are generally more expensive. Many suppliers believe they’re the answer to the slippery deck issue and easier to maintain. That’s simply not the case. Grime, debris, and moisture builds up on composite decking, just like timber decking. This makes it slippery. And PTV scores show composite decking is not naturally anti-slip. In fact, some composites have anti-slip properties, just like timber. Often overlooked, the longevity of your decking depends on correct structural timber treatment, whether you choose timber or composite boards. The untrained eye just sees decking boards. But below them is usually a timber structure, whatever sits on top. Should this structure fail due to poor specification, your entire deck fails. Sitting in the ground, this structural timber must receive Use Class 4 treatment to ensure long-term performance. Composite suppliers might be less thorough on this point – yet it’s crucial. Lowering your carbon footprint Most parks are trying to reduce their impact on the environment and promote themselves as a sustainable way of life. In fact, several sites have committed to becoming carbon neutral. There’s no doubt timber is a sustainable construction material to choose. Permanently capturing carbon dioxide, using timber from sustainable, replanted forests helps reduce your impact year after year. In contrast, composite boards demand more energy in production and retain a high oil content. And whilst recycled materials form the basis of some, they’re impossible to recycle at the end of their service life. The boards are doomed for landfill, unlike timber. When you’re trying to do the right thing, timber is the only choice. Questions to ask your timber decking supplier Always ask to see relevant documentation so you know exactly what you’re choosing. Any reputable supplier will provide this before you ask for it. Are the boards pressure treated to Use Class 3? Is the structural timber treated to Use Class 4? Can they confirm your timber is sustainably sourced? What warranty will you have? And for anti-slip timber decking, what’s the PTV score? By taking time to understand the complex specification of decking, and by appreciating the value of anti-slip decking to your park, you’ll gain a deck that serves you and your customers for years, safely and sustainably. We’re happy to answer your queries about timber and anti-slip decking. Treating all our timber on-site, we can also help you with treatment questions.
