GoldPark Holiday Caravan Insurance
The conduct of insurance activities is becoming more complex as FCA rules and regulations continue to evolve, and now GDPR has added a further layer of regulation. Whatever your chosen insurance option might be – whether it’s Appointed Representative (AR), Introducer Appointed Representative (IAR) or Passive Introducer (PI) – GoldPark have the solution. We find increasingly that the most popular solution for our park owners has become the IAR option. Some parks were reluctant to relinquish their AR status as they felt they may lose control of their scheme. However our unique on-line system provides a real-time analysis of their owners’ insurance. By referring clients to GoldPark, park owners have found that any initial loss of commission is more than made up by increased penetration, removal of park administration cost and postage costs and the fear of unintentionally breaching FCA regulations. 14 days’ free insurance with caravan sales When a park sells a caravan holiday home, GoldPark can provide 14 days’ free insurance during which period the client will be contacted by one of our trained advisors and provided with a quotation over the telephone. Switching from being an AR to becoming an IAR is easy as GoldPark provide all the back-up needed for seamless transition. GoldPark’s policies are backed by AXA and offer wide cover and competitive premiums. Our commission terms are flexible according to the differences in park involvement. GoldPark have developed a reputation for working successfully with parks and we always ensure that our offering is tailored to the specific needs of the park owner. Our trained advisors have a friendly and helpful approach and have received many compliments from park owners and individual clients. Completing the trio of new models is the luxurious Forest Grove lodge. Constantly innovating and developing its products, Willerby has created the model to offer customers more choice when it comes to distinctive, flexible space. The unique interior design allows for great spaces to suit every moment and event, such as quiet contemplation, romantic dining, downtime in front of the TV or an inside/outside social occasion, to suit every mood, choice and lifestyle. Alongside the new arrivals and classic holiday home and lodge options such as the Waverley and Clearwater, visitors at the Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show also viewed the Delamere, considered the most luxurious in the range of Park Homes by Willerby. Designed with character and distinction, the Delamere is a contemporary home with traditional touches that can be adapted to create your dream home. Kirsten Bolton, Willerby Marketing Director, commented: “It’s been an exciting start to the year for Willerby. “Alongside launching the three brand new models, we had a nostalgia theme running throughout the weekend. Understanding your Chassis
After a long winter and few months away, the last thing you will want to do after stepping foot back inside your caravan for the first time is go back outside and check the chassis. Although it’s not necessarily the first thing static caravan and park home owners think about at the start of the season, chassis inspection and maintenance should feature highly on the list of priorities. This is particularly true for those whose chassis are only painted steel, part- or pre-galvanised. Owners who have a fully galvanised foundation, can take a more relaxed approach. Depending on chassis type, signs of wear and levels of ongoing maintenance will vary and it is important to understand how this can affect the chassis warranty. The first question is, do you know what chassis type you have? Once you have obtained this formation from your manufacturer, this helpful guide from chassis manufacturer Bankside Patterson will ensure you keep the foundations of your investment in top condition. Painted Steel Chassis The chassis type that is most susceptible to corrosion is one that is simply made out of painted steel. Although this is the most cost effective option upon unit purchase, in the long-term it will mean more of your leisure time being spent on maintenance. This includes regular painting when the steel becomes exposed and rusting starts to appear. It is important to regularly check for rust spots and touch-up as required using a coating conforming to specification ISO 12944 C4. (See Bankside Patterson painting tips). 2 year warranty from the date of chassis manufacture; or 1 year anti-corrosion (perforation) warranty from date of sale. The above warranties become invalid unless touch-ups with the correct coating are carried out at least once per year (these will be required more frequently in coastal locations). Part or Pre-Galvanised Chassis Such chassis are made from pre-coated galvanised steel and are the mid-range option. Although they provide a higher level of corrosion protection than painted chassis, steel edges are left exposed when cut and, over time, a fine cosmetic film of rust will appear. This will not affect the rest of the chassis. However, to reduce the frequency of this occurring, grease/oil should be regularly applied to welded areas and cut edges. 2 year warranty from the date of chassis manufacture; or 1 year anti-corrosion (perforation) warranty from date of sale. These above warranties become invalid unless touch-ups with the correct coating are carried out at least once per year. Fully Galvanised Chassis A fully hot-dipped, galvanised chassis provides, by far, the highest levels of protection from rust and corrosion. This should be the only option considered if siting a caravan in exposed locations such as coastal areas. Selecting a fully galvanised chassis will eradicate the need for repainting and edge protection. Although the initial outlay maybe higher for a fully galvanised chassis, it does mean that after initial maintenance upon siting, you can just sit back and relax! 12 year warranty from the date of chassis manufacture; or 10 year anti-corrosion (perforation) warranty from date of sale. How can you keep your chassis in tip-top condition? Although it is sometimes easy to think you know what you are doing. Following industry-standard maintenance guidelines will help ensure the best coating is achieved when painting and the important areas of your chassis stays lubricated. In-turn, this will help keep your chassis in the best possible condition and your warranties will remain valid. Chassis painting Only conduct painting in warm/dry conditions (8-25◦C). Ensure the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn during application e.g. safety glasses, gloves, etc. Prior to application: remove all corrosion using a sanding disc/wire brush remove dirt/dust/grease with diluted detergent rinse with clean water and dry Lightly stir paint and do not apply thinners Apply paint with a clean brush and ensure all edges and corners are covered. Additional painting should be undertaken periodically as and when surface rust is found Bankside Patterson can supply the correct paint if required. Chassis lubrication Corner Steadies/Jack stands Clean/grease and wind all four through their full range of movement Jockey Wheel Clean and oil all moving parts Hitch head Clean and oil hitch handle and grease ball area Wheel and wheel stubs Protect tyres from direct sunlight Maintain tyre pressure at the level indicated on the wheel hub Protect the wheel stub with grease if removed after siting The Bankside Patterson Protech Range: Protech 300 & 500 Series – for regular Holiday Homes Protech 700 & 900 series – for lower weight Park Homes Next Generation Park Home (NGPH) – for higher weight lodges and park homes Understanding the alternatives with Shaun Gadsby – Senior Sales and Commercial Manager at Bankside Patterson “At Bankside Patterson we are not saying never chose a painted or part/pre-galvanised chassis,” explains Shaun, “in certain inland siting situations, they can still have a place. Also, it is important to understand that money is often a factor. However, when you consider the initial outlay, paying that little bit more for a fully- galvanised chassis to not have to worry about maintenance is worth serious consideration. “As a result of ongoing innovation, our Protech galvanised chassis is the number one fully-galvanised chassis choice. It adds resale value for the owners and eradicates the need for torepainting and edge protection. A holiday home is for relaxation time not more work. “However, irrespective of chassis type, all should be inspected when first sited to ensure no damage has occurred. This needs to be followed up with regular checks and required maintenance. “For anyone currently looking to buy a new caravan or upgrade, I would suggest chatting through the chassis options as part of the buying process. Making an informed decision in crucial.” You can learn more about chassis on the Bankside Patterson website www.galvanisedchassis.co.uk alternatively you can call the team on 01964 545454.
Bridge Leisure comes to the rescue after Thomas Cook collapse
Twenty families, who had their holidays cancelled due to the collapse of Thomas Cook, have been given a free holiday by UK holiday park owner and operator Bridge Leisure Parks. The Milton Keynes based company posted a message on all of their parks Facebook pages this morning asking for people to tag and share the offer with any friends or families that were due to fly out with Thomas Cook this week so they could get in touch. They were able to offer a few free breaks at each of their nine UK holiday parks located across the country in Scotland, Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Devon and Cornwall. Many of the families who contacted the company were in tears when they found out they were still able to enjoy a holiday with their families. CEO for Bridge Leisure, Andrew Howe said: “We understand just how much family holidays mean to people. They can take months or even years to plan and save up for, so to find out at the last minute that your dream holiday isn’t happening is devastating. We wanted to try and do something for as many of those families as we could.” “We appreciate a UK holiday may not have been the holiday they were hoping for but at least it will give them time away together to make some special memories as planned. We wish we could do it for everyone but hopefully other operators in the industry will pull together and help where they can.” A number of the families who got in contact had been due to fly out this morning and had to try and explain to upset children why they were no longer able to go on holiday. One family had been due to fly to Florida today on their daughter’s 11th birthday and have been planning the trip for two years. They are now going to stay at Hedley Wood in Devon for a much-needed break. Bridge Leisure invests over £3 million in UK parks Bridge Leisure Parks has announced a £3.2 million investment programme across its nine UK holiday parks, including the introduction of new luxury caravans and pet friendly accommodation. The biggest portion of that spend is focussed on Sand le Mere Holiday Village on the North Yorkshire Coast, where over £900,000 has been earmarked for the park’s development. The investment is being used to develop new pitches and purchase new self-catering caravans of various grades and improve the infrastructure. Trevella Park in Cornwall will benefit from over £330,000 of investment which is being spent on new superior lake view caravans, new safari tents and a substantial refurbishment of the touring shower and toilet block. In addition, Trevella, along with Silver Sands in Moray Firth, Scotland, will be the first parks to get new luxury pet friendly caravans, which include wood effect flooring, stable doors, dog guards and outdoor taps. Further to its new pet friendly accommodation, Silver Sands will be upgrading all its electric and water hook up points for touring guests as well as developing further locations for holiday home ownership situated next to the famous Lossimouth Links golf course and the beautiful Moray Firth. Ashbourne Heights in the beautiful Peak district will receive a new and expanded children’s play park as well as a new café facility for the park. Bridge’s Devon holiday park Hedley Wood is developing new pitches for holiday home ownership at the park and increasing the number of luxury ensuite touring pitches available following the popularity with customers of these as part of its development. In North Yorkshire, Bridge Leisure’s newest addition, Bowland Fell will upgrade and improve the holiday accommodation including the provision of accessible holiday unit. General upgrades around the park will see a car charging point and improvements to lighting and landscaping. CEO Andrew Howe said: “We are investing an additional £3.2 million which reflects the success and growth of the business overall. Staycations continue to increase in popularity, and we are expecting an even busier year due to continuing uncertainty around BREXIT and people making the smart choice to holiday in the UK. “It’s important to keep the parks facilities and accommodation fresh but it is also important to offer a choice of different accommodation, from value to luxury to suit all budgets. Customers have increasingly high expectations and we need to ensure that we continue to update and improve all of our parks to stay ahead of our competitors. We believe this increased investment will help us do that.” Find out more
Holiday home manufacturer’s models are ‘better than houses’
Editor Victoria Galligan spoke to Willerby product managers Rob Lawrence and Phil Parks about the success of the company, and its new-for-2019 models… Based in Hull and employing more than 1,000 people, Willerby recently announced year-on-year sales growth of 12.7%. Here, the product managers explain what goes on behind-the-scenes at the firm’s innovation division, and why the brand is (after 70 years) the UK’s largest manufacturer of holiday homes and lodges. Willerby – the brand Phil works on bespoke models, park homes and modular holiday lodges which include luxury leisure versions. He worked on the “Hobbit Houses” which Willerby produced for Alton Towers’ Enchanted Village. So, what makes Willerby models such a hit with customers – is it all about offering the highest specifications? Rob, who comes from a background in the furniture industry before joining Willerby last autumn, says, “Willerby has always had a great reputation for providing quality holiday homes, and as the largest manufacturer of holiday homes in the UK the company has invested a lot in new technology in order to maintain our high standards. People recognise a quality product when they look at Willerby homes.” Phil added, “We don’t design purely on specifications – although we do like to match or beat our competitors on this where possible, instead, we aim to produce the most affordable homes for our customers. “We work out what to deliver to our customers by asking them via social media, speaking to dealers at trade shows and speaking to customers at shows and via the Willerby Owners Club who offer us fantastic feedback and insight. We ask them what they want and why they want it, before the design and production stages. “Of course we also look at market trends and visit housing associations, kitchen manufacturers and find out what the public want in a home.” Acting on feedback Some examples of Willerby acting on customer feedback include the pet-friendly “Simply Pawsome” package – which can be added on to holiday homes to provide a dog pen, stable door and outside tap – as well as the Oslo wall system in the Juniper Lodge which are durable enough to hold wallpaper and bear up to 40kg of load on a single hook all created due to customer demand. Phil adds, “This year we’ve revised the Clearwater model, which is our best-value and best-selling lodge, so it was a big deal for us to make changes to. “However, we’ve made a lot of improvements by listening to feedback, looking at trends, and enhancing the space, the price and the specs, making it arguably our best-value holiday home.” The Avonmore holiday home has also had an update this year, including an innovative new sofa with built in storage for iPads and phones – plus handy USB plugs. Rob says, “All of our models are TV ready and we’re looking at adding Smart TV fittings to more models.” Rob says customers are always on the lookout for more storage in their holiday homes, adding, “It’s a big thing; our new Linwood entry-level holiday home has extra hidden storage in the lounge, kitchen and wardrobes. It was a design challenge as we’re constrained by size but we have managed to find significantly more space by making a few small additions throughout. “We also surveyed customers to find out where they spend the most time in their holiday home and, not surprisingly, they said the lounge. But when we asked where they would rather invest the most money in, the kitchen was considered the most important room in the home. That’s why we’ve made the kitchen bigger and included branded kitchen appliances such as Hotpoint microwaves.” Excitingly, the new Waverley model is the first Willerby holiday home to feature a kitchen island. The Waverley, which launched at The Lawns show, offers luxury touches such as black light fittings, touches of copper and sky pink tones in the upholstery. Robs commented, “It’s very stylish, with a really nice seating area and a window seat in the bedroom which we hope are modern touches that will appeal to a modern day customer.” It’s all in the build Willerby is all about creating the home-from-home experience – and Rob says this has influenced the new Integritas Wall SystemTM which will feature on mid-range models like the Avonmore and upwards as part of Willerby’s Simply Better Build range. He explains, “We’re removing the knock-in beads, and replacing them with a bonded wall system. Not only does this look nicer, and remove the beams to give a smoother look, but it actually makes the walls stronger by 70%. “Since launching, the response to the Simply Better Build concept has been really positive as the changes that we have made aims to make our holiday homes look and feel as much like the customers’ own homes as possible.” Meanwhile, as Willerby launch their luxury lodges later this autumn – the Rowan and Acorn – Phil is confident that the design which has gone into the homes will ensure they prove popular. The Rowan is the latest addition to the premium Botanical range; tastefully designed and appointed with an abundance of natural light allowed through its feature windows. The Acorn represents the best value for money at its price point, featuring bi-fold doors and engineered flooring as standard. The luxury lodges are made as twin units, using Glulam (glue-laminated) beams, which fit together easily onsite after leaving the 90-acre Willerby headquarters. Phil adds, “The beams create a strong lodge, which is going to last a long time, something which we know is important to our customers, who want to be confident they have the highest quality holiday home on the market.” Changes in innovation Phil agrees that the face of the caravan park industry has changed dramatically in the past 10 years. He commented, “We have to move with the times: customers want the latest colours, specs and the best technology. They want Bluetooth connectivity and in some cases our homes are

Heaven in Devon: Brixham park reveals new luxury lodges
One of Devon’s most dramatically located holiday parks, Riviera Bay in Brixham, will shortly be raising the curtains on a new development of luxury lodges. Perched on a cliff-top with breathtaking views across St Mary’s Bay, the newly-built lodges will give families the chance to own a holiday home like no other in the West Country. Park Holidays UK describes the development as the most prestigious it has ever completed, and is holding a public preview weekend on 16/17 June. The celebration event will see the official opening of the development with guests enjoying guided tours of the lodges, and free day-long use of all the park’s facilities. These include an swimming pool complex, entertainment centre, and bar and restaurants. The 17 new lodges for sale in the first phase are located in separate grounds adjacent to the main park, and owners will have access to a beautiful dog-friendly beach via the coastal path. Starting at just over £157,000 and rising to almost double that figure, the lodges are just a fraction of what it might cost to own a cottage in picture-postcard Brixham. And that, says the group, would be minus the views, privacy, and living space of its lodges. Lodge owners will also be able to enjoy holidays throughout the four seasons in their leisure homes as Riviera Bay is open for eleven months of the year. All-weather comfort is assured by the high-efficiency central heating and the superior levels of insulation with which all of the lodges come equipped as standard. There is a choice of two and three-bedroom models – and all have two bathrooms, generous living areas, fully-fitted modern kitchens, luxury furnishings, and a large external veranda. The amazing setting, says the group, is likely to provide a massive second income potential through sub-letting via Park Holiday UK’s optional management programme. There will also be a substantial cost saving for early buyers on the new development as the company is promising free pitch fees for the next two years. The official opening of the lodges takes place on Saturday 16 June at 11.30am with a glass of bubbly and canapes for everyone attending. Tours are available on both the Saturday and Sunday. To book a visit to Riviera Bay, call 01803 220 564 – or email rivierabaysalesmanager@ParkHolidays.com. There is more information about Riviera Bay at www.ParkHolidays.com
